As part of my gift guide series this year, I wanted to dedicate one to the small independent businesses dotted around Salisbury... I moved here at the beginning of the year and even now I'm still discovering small local businesses that I hadn't heard of up until now. With Christmas mode in full swing in the city, I wanted to share some independents to check out when Christmas shopping...
The Local Salisbury Business Gift Guide
Etica Boutique
Located in St Thomas Square, Etica Boutique sell a range of clothing, accessories and homeware. Not only are all of the pieces beautiful and really well curated but the shop as a whole has a very sustainable focus. I mean, Etica itself means 'ethical' in Italian. It's worth noting that Etica Boutique is closed on a Sunday so do plan ahead!
Captive Worlds
Captive Worlds was one of the businesses featured in this year's festive windows created by Fran, Amy and Dean from Interior Design Masters. They're a specialist aquariaum and terrarium store. Not only do they have all of things you could ever need to set up your own aquarium or terrarium, but they also sell some plants and host their own workshops too. Captive Worlds is a great place to head for the green-fingered people in your life. (And if you're not sure what to get, they sell gift cards too!)
Sister's Wardrobe
A newer addition to Salisbury, Sister's Wardrobe is a preloved clothing shop that only sell items that are in good condition. The items are all higher ticket pieces but at a far better price than you'd pay for them new, including those still with tags! In case you weren't aware, you can actually sell your pieces in the store and receive 50% of the profit. From All Saints to Lucy & Yak, they stock a wide range of different brands, but by the very nature of the shop, all pieces are one off and the stock is always changing. It's worth noting they are closed on a Sunday too.
Casa Fina
If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen me mention Casa Fina a few times now. They're a homeware shop not far from the cathedral and sell new, vintage and antique pieces. They were actually featured on series three of BBC's Interior Design Masters and the shop is fab to wander around. I've bought a few of our baubles from there this year and they're stunning. Casa Fina is a great place to have a look around for the home decor lover in your life. Candles, mugs, trinkets, they've got it all!
Blueberry Den
Looking to make more sustainable purchases this year? Look no further than Blueberry Den. They're located on Winchester Street and are a plastic free shop that sell sustainable, local and ethical products. From plastic free beauty products (such as soaps and bath salts) to kitchen bits (like coconut wood cutlery) there's something for every eco-concious relative or friend.
Mhoho and Co
Currently available to buy on Etsy, Mhoho and Co make beautiful, personalised jewellery in both silver and gold. The pieces are all handmade here in Salisbury and cost between £20 and £38 each. From rings to pendants, all of the jewellery can either be personalised with a name, date, initial, or even a pet's paw print. I was kindly sent a personalised ring by Jenny at Mhoho and Co and I wear it every single day. The quality is brilliant and I always get comments on it!

Who knew there were so many fab gift ideas for dog lovers?! From custom socks to books to canvases, you name it, it probably exists out there. I've certainly bought a few over the last couple of years and they're always really well received. So, in this post, I'm going to cover 5 of my favourite gifts for dog lovers...
Custom Pet Portraits*
Have you ever seen Murph looking so put together? The Mr&MrsPaw canvases are really easy to order (you just choose your outfit and send off a photo of your pet) and within a few weeks, you have a custom pet portrait arriving at your door. The artists did a great job of drawing Murphy - just look at that resemblance! (You also get to request amendments to the artwork if it's not quite right, but this one of Murphy was perfect the first time!)
Where's Dog Name? Book
We actually have a copy of this book personalised with Murphy's name and cartoon, and it's such a fab gift idea. It's essentially a Where's Wally book, just with a little cartoon of your dog to spot, rather than Wally. My Mum received it as a gift a couple of Christmases ago and we've had many attempts at spotting him.
Chew This Journal
Who remembers the Wreck This Journals back in the Tumblr days? Well, this is a spin-off to complete with your dog and it looks like brilliant fun. The publishers describe it as a 'memory keeper and activity tracker' and it consists of over 100 activities.
Dog Air Fresheners
Anyone who knows me in person will know about my current air freshener (it's Phil Mitchell from Eastenders) but how cute would a personalised dog one be? Whilst they're a little pricier than your standard Halfords jobby, as a gift these are ideal! With Freshenify there is also a choice of 9 different scents as well as unscented if that's more your thing.
Dog On Socks
Now, these are a real find. Who doesn't want their dog's face all over their socks? I've seen quite a few brands offering this style of sock but these ones have particularly good reviews. They're available in a range of different colours and styles, but these ones are my favourite.
If my family are reading this post, you'll have to forget everything I've mentioned here. When December rolls around no doubt I'll come back to this post and make an order or two! If you have a dog, which would be your favourite gift from this list to receive?

I know I alwaaaays say this, but isn't time flying - how is it Mother's Day next weekend? I feel like it was Christmas only last week yet here we are, mid-March, on the countdown to summer...
For today's post, I thought I'd compile a little Mother's Day gift guide to help inspire your shopping. I mean, after all that our Mums have done (and continue to do) for us, a scented candle or a bunch of flowers is the very least we can do, huh?
Jewellery
I don't know about you, but I NEVER go out and buy myself fancy jewellery for the sake of it. I mean, I'd love to, but I never find myself wandering around the shops of a weekend and deciding to drop £100 on a necklace. Maybe one day, eh? So, for now, nice jewellery is saved for birthdays and special occasions, and Mother's Day is just that. I was recently gifted the most beautiful necklace from Matthew Calvin and I cannnnnot get enough of it. Another firm favourite jewellery shop of mine is Pandora - I just love stacking up all of their minimalist rings. Other jewellery shops worth a browse this Mother's Day are: Daisy Jewellery, Wild Fawn Jewellery and Jewellery Box.
Toiletries
THE classic gift. Whether it be a shower gel and body lotion set, or a hand wash and hand cream set, toiletries are always a great go-to gift. I mean, what with the Coronavirus, a nice hand soap wouldn't go amiss right now. As I'm sure a lot of you will know, I'm currently embarking on a mission to be a little more sustainable and trying to reduce the number of disposable products I use. Linked to this, I was recently introduced to Friction Free Shaving* who are a razor subscription company. They produce high-quality razors, with recyclable blades, meaning no part of the razor is thrown into landfill! They've brought out a range of gift packs for Mother's Day, so if you're trying to think of something a little different but eco-conscious, definitely have a look!
Candles
Can you beat a new, cosy candle? I think not. Anything that makes a room smell delicious is a win in my books, so obviously I had to include candles in this gift guide. I was sent this Rituals* one a while ago and it's really nice, it smells just like a spa. Other favourite shops for candles include: Yankee Candle (obviously), Homesense and Anthropologie. I'm not sure what else there is to say about candles other than they smell great, add a nice touch of warmth to a room and Mums love a candle...

What have you bought your Mum for Mother's Day?

But, as I mentioned in my last gift guide, this year I'm trying to be really mindful with the gifts I buy and only get things that I know people will love. I'm so guilty of buying things for people for the sake of it, to bulk things out, that this year I've decided to call a stop to that, yay! So, we've all heard of Dermalogica skincare products but did you know they've recently released a range of body products too? There are currently four products available and I have these two; the Body Hydrating Cream and the Conditioning Body Wash. At just under £30.00 each they are by no means cheap but if you're looking for some really nice toiletries - have a look at these! For reference, also in the range are a body oil and a body scrub. I really want to gift these to someone but part of me also wants to keep them for myself and give them a try, the dilemma, hey?
Now, I'm sure you don't need me to say it yet again but the planet needs our help. There are lots of things we can do to be more sustainable - you can read some of them here - and one of these changes is the switch to reusable products in our beauty routines. These cotton pads are made of cotton and bamboo and can be reused over 200 times, simply throw them in the wash inside the included bag. As much as we all want to try and do our bit, purchasing things like these often isn't at the top of our priorities lists, so purchasing them for someone as a gift is a great idea. If someone bought me these I'd be so chuffed!
Everyone I know has a phone. Most people have a phone case. So, choosing someone a new phone case as a gift is a great idea in my opinion. I mean, we spend a LOT of time with our phones in our hands so we may as well make our phones look pretty, right?! I've posted a few pictures of Caseapp cases over on my Instagram and their cases never seem to disappoint! I always opt for a matte finish and at the moment I am absolutely loving this dark tropical print!
Following on from my last point, lots of people also have laptops. My sister recently bought a laptop and is yet to buy a case for it, so I bought her this one from Typo! Again, a new laptop case isn't necessarily something you'd treat yourself to so it's nice to receive one as a gift. I'm not sure how much more I can say about a laptop case, that's about it really...
What is a gift guide without at least a little bit of Lush?! This is the Santa Bubble Bar, it is reusable and SO blooming cute. It's got a real citrusy scent, so whilst it looks very festive, it doesn't smell it, meaning that if you're still using it up in January you won't be stuck with the smell of winter spices! I'm not sure you need me to sell Lush's products to you anymore - we all know and love them, don't we!
I love Annie's products. Her prints are all gorgeous and I loved this weekly planner when I spotted it. All of her products are really well priced too, so great if you have a Secret Santa at work coming up. Who doesn't love a new notebook? I very much have my eye on her bee print, if you haven't seen it, check it out.

Whilst this one if for 'Him' I've written it with parents in mind, or, my Dad to be more specific.
Rather than purchase a ridiculous number of presents for each of my family members, this year I've decided to be far more selective, and only choose things I know they're really going to love. Goodbye buying things for the sake of it, hello mindful consumerism! So, if you're wondering why my gift guides aren't as comprehensive this year, that'll be why! How incredible is this print?! My family and I have spent many a summer in Cornwall and have many fond memories there. We haven't been for quite a few years but now that we have Murph, a trip is very much on the cards. I love all of Place in Print's artwork but when I saw this I knew it'd be perfect. The colours are gorgeous, the beach scene is stunning and it's a place that holds a very special place in our hearts. There are lots of other places available and there is even the option to have your print framed if you'd really like to take the gift one step further!
What is a gift guide without some sort of fragrance, hey?! This Sweet Spice and Sandalwood one from Bespoke London is really nice and comes in at under a tenner - what a deal! I'm not even going to begin to try and explain what this smells of, it's just a great masculine sorta smell. 10/10 for effort there, Becca!
Gifting someone a board game is always a great idea as it means there's always something fun to do in that festive lull between Christmas and the New Year. Muso DJ is a new playlist party game that requires a music streaming service as well as the cards. Essentially, the cards all have a playlist prompt on, you take it in turns to pick one and play a song that fits that topic. The other players then have to guess the name, the artist and the playlist itself, winning points for each of these. The winner is the first to 35 points and there are also Sing cards for those who fancy performing. I absolutely love the concept of this game - there are so many of my friends who this would be a perfect gift for!
Gin is absolutely the drink of the moment. There are t-shirts with gin puns on, gin festivals popping up here, there and everywhere, and more wild and interesting flavours of gin than you can shake a stick at. Rather than just buying someone a bottle, this cracker is a nice festive looking gift that contains everything you need for a G&T. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not the best value for money volume-wise, but as for aesthetics - it's a great gift!
Chutney Selection - The Deli Kitchen
Do all Dads just love chutneys?! We were recently discussing gifting ideas at work and one that came up was chutneys! If you read my last gift guide you'll know I picked up a festive chutney for my Dad last Christmas, so when I saw this gift set I knew I needed to buy it. I think it was from Home Bargains for around £7 but don't quote me on that! Apologies for the lack of a link, I can't seem to find one anywhere - I picked it up quite a few weeks ago now but they're bound to still have them in store!

The colours are gorgeous, the beach scene is stunning and it's a place that holds a very special place in our hearts. What is a gift guide without some sort of fragrance, hey?! This Sweet Spice and Sandalwood one from Bespoke London is really nice and comes in at under a tenner - what a deal! I'm not even going to begin to try and explain what this smells of, it's just a great masculine sorta smell. 10/10 for effort there, Becca!
Gifting someone a board game is always a great idea as it means there's always something fun to do in that festive lull between Christmas and the New Year. Muso DJ is a new playlist party game that requires a music streaming service as well as the cards. Essentially, the cards all have a playlist prompt on, you take it in turns to pick one and play a song that fits that topic. The other players then have to guess the name, the artist and the playlist itself, winning points for each of these. The winner is the first to 35 points and there are also Sing cards for those who fancy performing. I absolutely love the concept of this game - there are so many of my friends who this would be a perfect gift for!
Gin is absolutely the drink of the moment. There are t-shirts with gin puns on, gin festivals popping up here, there and everywhere, and more wild and interesting flavours of gin than you can shake a stick at. Rather than just buying someone a bottle, this cracker is a nice festive looking gift that contains everything you need for a G&T. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not the best value for money volume-wise, but as for aesthetics - it's a great gift!
Chutney Selection - The Deli Kitchen
Do all Dads just love chutneys?! We were recently discussing gifting ideas at work and one that came up was chutneys! If you read my last gift guide you'll know I picked up a festive chutney for my Dad last Christmas, so when I saw this gift set I knew I needed to buy it. I think it was from Home Bargains for around £7 but don't quote me on that! Apologies for the lack of a link, I can't seem to find one anywhere - I picked it up quite a few weeks ago now but they're bound to still have them in store!

I picked up the Festive Games set in Superdrug, and I'm going to be honest, I have absolutely no idea what the games entail... I'll find out on Christmas day and report back, but hopefully they're a good laugh.
My Dad always buys me new recipe books, so, this year, I thought I'd get one for him. It's a chicken recipe book, and yep, you guessed it, all of the recipes involve chicken. I've had a quick flick through it and some of the recipes sound DELICIOUS. On the topic of food, I bought this Christmas Spice Chutney as it seemed like such a 'Dad gift'. I personally don't like chutney, so don't have a lot else to say about this one other than it was £3 in Waitrose if you're wondering.
What would a gift guide be without chocolate and toiletries? I spotted these limited edition salted caramel Matchmakers and knew I had to get them, my Dad looooves salted caramel. The shower gel was just a huge Dove one I spotted in Superdrug and thought I'd pick it up. Nothing fancy about that one, just shower gel. (Can you tell I was struggling to think of gifts?)
Whilst I was scrolling on Amazon I found two other gifts that I thought were a little bit different. The first is a grow your own Bonsai tress kit... Yep, so random, but if successful I think they'll look really pretty. I like getting people gifts that involve something to actually do. So, when I also spotted the Lego Star Wars set, I immediately added it to my basket as another present/activity.
Do you also find men ridiculously hard to buy for?

Here, I've chosen to feature a Revolution blush palette as the colours are so so pretty and it costs less than a fiver. What is Christmas without perfume? Do people ever go out and buy themselves a new perfume throughout the year, or does the entire country wait until Christmas to be gifted a new one? These Daisy miniatures smell incredible and work out at £7.50 a bottle - a little luxury. Speaking of luxuries, I loooove Nuxe products and so their shower oil had to make it into this gift guide. At £11 it's not something you'd buy for yourself, Radox on offer for a quid in Tesco is far more likely, which is why it makes a great gift. Clothes are always a go-to gift idea, and at this time of year, is there anything better than receiving a new cosy jumper? The one featured is a jumper dress from Primark and it is so so soft, definitely go and hunt it down in store. Speaking of cosy, how adorable are these slippers*?! They're £7.99 and potentially the cutest things ever. It's a bit of a standing joke in my house that we always get my Mum new slippers every Christmas without fail, and I think these could be the best ones she's had yet. The last item in the cosy section of this gift guide is the Rum and Orange Candle* from Ludic Candles. It literally smells like Christmas. Christmas in a jar. I'm in love and I lowkey want to keep it for myself. All of the candles are eco-friendly and handmade in the New Forest - shop locally my dudes, shop locally. Moving on, I know they're a bit cliche, but a nice photo frame is always a really easy but thoughtful gift. The one featured is from Card Factory and I'm going to fill it with a photo of us from the summer. Books are also a bit of a standard gift, but a nice one nonetheless. The book featured here is that Gail Honeyman novel that everyone and their sister were reading over the summer. I actually really enjoyed it, hence it's spot in this gift guide.

It felt only right to start the month off with a gift guide, a stocking filler gift guide in fact. Being a student, as much as I'd love to add 17 Diptique candles to my basket, a Gucci belt and a Macbook pro to my basket, and checkout and be done with it, I unfortunately don't have the funds for that. Or even one Diptique candle when I come to think of it, but that's besides the point. Alas, my gift guides this year are all going to be very budget friendly (under £20) with products that are easily accessible... Sound good? Dive right in. (I have a gift guide for Mum's and one for Dad's coming very soon!)
Whilst trawling the internet, I spotted the nude lipstick set on the Boohoo website and thought I'd buy it, just in case it ends up being incredible. They were really affordable and the shades looked really nice online. Obviously I haven't tried them, they're a gift, but if the recipient likes them I'll be sure to report back. Maybe I've just discovrered some hidden treasure. I know I'm definitely guilty of not replacing my beauty blender enough, so, I thought a new, fresh one would make a great stocking filler. I personally use the Real Techniques one and I love it. Corrr, imagine opening this on Christmas morning and then using it to apply your makeup for the big day, it's the little things hey.
I spotted the burgundy lace cami on Boohoo for £8 and couldn't not buy it for my sister. It's such a gorgeous colour and would look lovely tucked into black jeans on Christmas day itself, or any day of the year for that matter. If you know the person well enough, I think items of clothing make a really nice gift. I love me some new clothes. Jewellery is another go-to stocking filler and this year Jewellery Box have particulalry caught me eye. They have an entire sterling silver range and it's really affordable, yay! For example, this necklace* costs only £5.95 and the earrings* are £5.85, and they even come in little presentation boxes.
I think I'm going to group the last three items in this gift guide under the umbrella term of 'cosy'; candles, pyjamas and slippers. How incredible do those fluffy grey bottoms look? PSA: They're from Primark and only cost a fiver, and yes, they're just as soft in real life as they look on camera. Speaking of Primark, that's where the tartan slippers are from. They're £2.50 and the ideal stocking filler in my opinion. The candle pictured I bought in IKEA the other day and it's their Vinter 2018 candle. It smells delicious; like Christmas cookies and I love the jar it comes in.
