The Gratitude Diaries 001

25 March 2020

With everything going on - I'm sure you know what I'm referring to and don't need me to drop the C-Bomb once more - I thought I'd start a little series titled 'The Gratitude Diaries'. Every week (maybe ???) I thought I'd do a little round-up of things I'm grateful for and ramble on about them in a sentence or two. Whilst it may seem like it's all just doom and gloom at the moment, rest assured, it's not. Good things are still happening and things will return to usual! We've all just got to hang in there, chill at home and WASH OUR HANDS. We got this.

The Gratitude Diaries 001 - a reflection on the things I'm grateful for this week

Sleepovers with the Pup
Over my birthday I took a few days off work and so had Murph in my room for some sleepovers. I usually get up and dressed, and am pretty much ready to leave before he wakes up so he never tends to sleep in my room. But, having a few days off was the perfect time for some puppy cuddles in bed. He's the funniest thing during the night and occasionally likes to plop himself down on your head or dig in the duvet. Honestly, what did we do before we had a dog, eh?

My Incredible Friends & Fam in the NHS
It really doesn't need to be said that the NHS are doing a fantastic job, as always. But, this week I've been catching up with my cousin and some of my best pals and I am SO PROUD of everything they are doing. Shoutout to you all, you really smashing it and we are so very grateful!

Napping in the Sun on the Sofa
What with working full time and a pretty busy calendar at the weekends, I never usually find myself at home of a sunny afternoon. But, if there is one thing that lockdown has reminded me of, it's how good a nap on the sofa with the sun streaming through the windows onto your face is. Pretty niche I know, but fantastic nonetheless. Plans for this week include lots more sofa naps in the sun.

Plans to Look Forward To
Last week it was my birthday and it's safe to say things were a little different to usual. I mean, I didn't meet up with any friends for one. BUT, that just gives me more things to look forward to, right? My family very kindly gifted me a spa day and some tickets to see my favourite singer in concert. Both have been postponed which just means extended birthday celebrations, wahey!

Takeaway Pizza
Takeaways are a very rare occurrence in the Martin household but last week we had a fab meal from our local little Italian restaurant. It's not somewhere I think we've ever ordered a takeaway from before but it was really really good. Shop local in these times, my dudes.

My Skin Clearing Up
I've been taking Roaccutane for a couple of weeks now and I'm starting to notice some changes in the right direction! I've heard a lot of people say that it tends to get worse before it gets better - hello flaky face and crusty lips - but it definitely seems to be doing its thing! I've had bad skin for yeaaaars now, roll on being a clear skin kween!

The Community Spirit in my Town
My town is one that has its own Facebook group. You know the ones... The moaning about parking or product availability in the supermarket, to finding lost dogs and engagement rings. This week, however, has seen the group produce four community groups all DBS checked and ready to help volunteer in our local community in every way that they can. How brilliant is that?! My faith in humanity has been restored.

What are you grateful for this week?

  1. So nice to read some positivity in these weird times. I'm grateful that I'm able to continue my work as an NHS secretary and that gigs I was looking forward to WILL happen, just later on x

  3. These little things certainly made me smile! The face there is a community group is so cute for your area! My area isn’t so nice unfortunately but I know there’s still good people out there regardless!
